Brian (a.k.a. Sherm) brings together analytical, left-brain thinking and intuitive, right-brain artistry to create meaningful solutions to design challenges. He understands business or operational objectives and translates them into pragmatic and original creative direction. Brian gets excited about exploring new ideas in service of practical results.
As Executive Producer, Graphic Design at SFO Museum, from 2004 until 2011, Brian raised the profile of SFO Museum by focusing on branding issues, which resulted in a new name and logo, and internet presence, which resulted in creation of a new website operated by staff Curators using a CMS. He was responsible for all graphic design of the exhibitions, as well as photography, website, and IT issues. Prior to joining SFO Museum, Brian spent six years working for design studios, non-profits, corporations, and small businesses throughout the Bay Area. At the University of California, Berkeley, Brian edited academic journal submissions by Geophysicists who were non-native English speakers, and purchased materials to build instruments for satellites. He was Design and Development Engineer at Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, MI, where he tested prototype vehicles, practiced good Project Management techniques and opened new channels of communication between engineering teams.
Brian earned a bachelor's of science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He complimented his education with a bachelor's of fine art from the California College of the Arts, San Francisco. He attends myriad seminars and professional working groups in the Bay Area related to green energy and design, web development, graphic design, and is a member of the AIGA and IxDA.
